My favorite thing about celebrating a holiday, is throwing a party with that holiday’s theme. The other day, my good friend asked me to help her throw her 2 year old’s birthday party with a Halloween theme.
The mom of the birthday girl was planning on buying cupcakes, so I asked her if I could make them. She said sure! Baking cupcakes were the last thing she wanted to do! But I love baking, and decorating, so I was thrilled!
What I ended up making, with a bit of inspiration from Pinterest, was spiderweb cupcakes and a spiderweb cupcake cake.I love cupcake cakes! They are so easy, and so much more convenient for you and your guests than a regular cake, in my opinion.
I also added a few gluten free cupcakes with their own spiderwebs around the cake. Which is another thing I love about cupcake cakes. You can leave a few cupcakes separate from the cake to add more dimension to the cake table. To make a cupcake cake, arrange the baked cupcakes in the shape you want (be sure they’re cooled!) Then you frost all of them as if they’re a cake. Yes, there are a few cracks and holes here and there, just put more frosting on there until it all looks somewhat smooth.
Then decorate however you want!
To make a spiderweb, draw a spiral with your desired color of icing.
Then take a toothpick, and starting from the center, draw a line to the outside of the cupcake.
Continue “drawing” lines from the center to the outside until you make it around. Between lines, I always wipe off the frosting from the toothpick so it doesn’t get clumpy.Always start from the center! If you draw straight across, one side of the web will be going the wrong direction.
For the spiderweb on the cake, I started the middle of the spiral a bit off-center for a more “spiderweb” look.
If you have any fake spiders you want to add, feel free! I didn’t have any, so I just drew one on.
So super easy! And people will think you’re so fancy!
Do you have any crazy easy decorating ideas for cakes or otherwise?! I’m already planning my next Halloween-themed party!!
