Mama Improvement Project: Skin Care (DIY Face Peel)

I have always been so horrible when it comes to skin care. I had a regimen back in junior high when I first started wearing make-up. Wash, toner, moisturizer. But since then, it’s just been make-up remover, and/or soap and water.

So, actually this post will be a series of posts (in a post series), about skin care.

This time, I’m getting rid of black heads!

I used to love getting those super pricey nose and face strips that would always do the trick, but as I said, they are super pricey.

A year ago or so, I ran across a recipe for a homemade face peel to get rid of black heads. You can see the original recipe here. When I made it the first time, I found that the recipe made way too much for my face and I ended up throwing most of it away. So I have reduced it quite a bit. (There was still some leftover. Maybe do this with a friend!)

You will need:  A disposable cup

A spoon

2 teaspoons of Milk

1 teaspoon Unflavored Gelatin

Mix the milk and gelatin. Then microwave for 10 seconds. Mix again. Carefully (because it may be hot), apply to your face. Only put it  on problem areas-you can cover your entire face if you want, just remember you’ll have to peel it all off later…And it doesn’t feel good… Let it dry. The thicker you put it on, the longer it takes to dry, but it’s much easier to peel than if it’s a thin layer.  To completely dry, it took about 15-20 minutes.

Now for the fun part. And by fun, I mean the tear-inducing, painful part. Peel it off. So gross, but pretty effective (and it is kinda fun)!  Your face may feel a bit tingly afterwards for a few minutes. I did a quick rinse after too, to get anything I missed. I would suggest only doing this peel once or twice a month. (I am not a skin care expert, I’m just a mom in search of ways to improve myself. Use this face peel at your own risk.)

Now I need to find a daily routine for my face that won’t kill my budget. If you have any suggestions, please share! And if you have any DIY face peels you love, feel free to share those too!!

I am also terrible with my skin care routine. I’m so tired by the end of the night, I hardly want to wash off my make-up. I’ll be reading your posts for more tips!

I’m trying hard to be better at this and it’s hard… But this looks cool, so maybe I’ll try it soon! My luck it’ll make me break out everywhere lol. Good job working to take care of yourself, even in these small ways.

Oh no! I hope it doesn’t! I have pretty sensitive skin and it was fine. Just be sure you only put it on areas where you would put the strips, (nose, chin, forehead.)

I have to try this, I never really trouble with my skin but a year after my son’s birth I started breaking out. I should try this and see if it clears up a bit. I just gotta get some gelatin.
