Spiderweb Cupcakes

Posted in Holidays by

My favorite thing about celebrating a holiday, is throwing a party with that holiday’s theme. The other day, my good friend asked me to help her throw her 2 year old’s birthday party with a Halloween theme.

The mom of the birthday girl was planning on buying cupcakes, so I asked her if I could make them. She said sure! Baking cupcakes were the last thing she wanted to do! But I love baking, and decorating, so I was thrilled!

What I ended up making, with a bit of inspiration from Pinterest, was spiderweb cupcakes and a spiderweb cupcake cake.Halloween cupcakesI love cupcake cakes! They are so easy, and so much more convenient for you and your guests than a regular cake, in my opinion.

I also added a few gluten free cupcakes with their own spiderwebs around the cake. Which is another thing I love about cupcake cakes. You can leave a few cupcakes separate from the cake to add more dimension to the cake table.Halloween cake tableTo make a cupcake cake, arrange the baked cupcakes in the shape you want (be sure they’re cooled!) Then you frost all of them as if they’re a cake. Yes, there are a few cracks and holes here and there, just put more frosting on there until it all looks somewhat smooth.

Then decorate however you want!

To make a spiderweb, draw a spiral with your desired color of icing.

Then take a toothpick, and starting from the center, draw a line to the outside of the cupcake.

Continue “drawing” lines from the center to the outside until you make it around. Between lines, I always wipe off the frosting from the toothpick so it doesn’t get clumpy.Halloween cupcakesAlways start from the center! If you draw straight across, one side of the web will be going the wrong direction.

For the spiderweb on the cake, I started the middle of the spiral a bit off-center for a more “spiderweb” look. This is a super easy spiderweb cupcake cake that is sure to impress your Halloween Party guests!
If you have any fake spiders you want to add, feel free! I didn’t have any, so I just drew one on.

So super easy! And people will think you’re so fancy!

Do you have any crazy easy decorating ideas for cakes or otherwise?! I’m already planning my next Halloween-themed party!!

Those look awesome!! I don’t typically make cake for Halloween but there are a lot of super cute and easy decorations. Tissue and cotton ball ghosts are my favorite (just drape a tissue over a cotton ball, tie a string string to hold the cotton ball in, then hang…) TA-DA! Ghost!!!!

So cute! I love the idea of cupcakes for a party instead of a cake. So much easier for the kids to eat.

I’m coming over for dessert! These are so cute and fun! The most creative I’ve got so far in the baking department is buying Halloween cookie cutters – I haven’t even used them yet! I better get crackin’! LOL

Love this idea!!! I have a birthday coming up right after Christmas for my youngest, and I really think I’ll use your cupcake cake idea and then since we are still “trying” to do the gluten free thing, I can make some gluten free and some regular cupcakes as well. Thanks for sharing 🙂

Such a neat way to do Halloween themed cupcakes. I love when others do a tutorial that involves food/recipes because I’m not the best in the kitchen so I always walk away learning something!
