Last week I got to go on trip to Leavenworth, Washington.
It was a two-part trip. The first few days it was my mom and me. The last few days, my husband, dad, and kiddos joined us.
The entire trip, (including when the kids were there), ended up being amazing and relaxing. I feel so lucky to have had those first few days away with my mom. She and I are very close and since I’ve had kids, we rarely get any alone time.
Actually, we never get alone time. So this particular type of getaway was long overdue.
I’m going to add here that it was at the suggestion of my husband that we get out of town. So don’t worry, he was completely on board.
We chose to go to Leavenworth for several reasons.
The two top reasons were 1. It’s an adorable Bavarian town nestled in the middle of the gorgeous Cascade mountains, and 2. There are 12 wine tasting rooms within walking distance of each other (and our room). (I’ll give you one guess as to which reason was most convincing.)
At first I was a little disappointed that we couldn’t go in December. They have a tree lighting every weekend and it’s gorgeous!! But it’s also insanely crowded. Turns out, November is the perfect time to go. Most of the shops already had their Christmas lights up. So it was incredibly festive and never crowded!
The night before I left I told my husband the thing I was looking forward to the most was going into a store and shop around for as long as I wanted. No little shadows behind me, tugging on me, wanting to leave or needing me to take them to pee.
It was everything I had hoped for. I didn’t buy much, but I had the time of my life just looking. (Seriously though, the “time of my life.”)We also got to wander from one tasting room to another and take our time. I could go on and on about the wonderful wines, tasting rooms, and people we met, but that would be an entirely different post. Just know that if you ever get a chance, you should definitely check out the wines in Leavenworth. While we’re at it, check out any wines from Washington state, there are some really great ones!
Our first full day in Leavenworth was perfect weather for shopping and wandering around, but the second day was miserable. Pouring down rain, wind, and all around awful. Luckily we were ready for a relax day.
We had a great time. We rented movies, played cards, and we got to chat. I didn’t realize how much I had missed just hanging out with my mom by myself.
My husband, dad, and the kiddos arrived on our second full day in Leavenworth. I had had a great time off, but I was ready to hold my babies again. Thankfully they were happy to see me too.
There wasn’t any snow yet so there wasn’t a whole lot for the kiddos to do. They both really enjoyed window shopping though! We were not about to take them inside those stores with wall to wall breakables!!They also loved running around in the gazebo in the middle of town. That was probably their favorite!
My little miss wasn’t feeling well the second day there so I got a ton of extra cuddles from her. And she also napped most of the day. As I said earlier, the entire vacation was so relaxing!
Both kids slept through the night each night and they had their own bed. No cribs or pack and plays. I was a bit nervous at first after our trip to Chelan, but everyone actually got sleep on this vacation!
The last day we were there, I took my sweet girl to the Christmas Store, Kris Kringl. I wanted to show her the gorgeous decorations and I also wanted her to pick out her very first ornament. I don’t know where we’ll be going next year, but I’d like to get her an ornament every year. The trip home was even relaxing. Both kids slept for a good portion of the four hour drive and it was amazing!
I’m going to leave you with a few texts I received from my husband while he was at home alone with the kiddos.
This vacation was the most relaxing vacation I’ve had in a long time. It certainly helped to have the alone time in the beginning. I’d love to make it an annual thing. I wonder if the husband would go for that… What would be your dream getaway?
