Easy Homemade Alfredo Sauce

When I was a kid, I was pretty weird about sauces. I ate spaghetti with butter and Parmesan instead of my mom’s delicious homemade sauce. And now that I think of it, I still scrape off my pizza sauce (if there’s too much, which there usually is).

The older I got, the more willing I was to try new sauces. One type of sauce I never liked was Alfredo sauce. I had only tried it from a jar, and I always thought it had a funky flavor and smell to it. Still do, in fact. You will never see me go near a jar of Alfredo sauce, ever.

Turns out, one of my husband’s favorite meals is fettuccine Alfredo. Doesn’t matter what type of meat, as long as some is around.

So a few years ago I decided to find a simple, tasty recipe for his favorite sauce that I would enjoy too.

Lucky for me, I had just received the best cookbook of all time from one of my good friends, The America’s Test Kitchen Family Cookbook. Everything I have tried from this book has been simple and delicious!

So, here is the super Easy Homemade Alfredo Sauce that I make all the time, that everyone in my family loves!! (I will spare you the adorable pictures of the two year old covered in noodles and sauce. You’re welcome.)

You will need:

2 cups heavy cream
1 tablespoon of butter
1 cup of shredded Parmesan cheese
salt and pepper to taste

1. Heat up the cream in a pot on medium-high heat, (simmer, don’t boil). Stir often enough to make sure it doesn’t stick to the bottom. Also, keep a close eye on it so it doesn’t boil over. That’s not a fun mess to clean up! (Its happened more than once.)

2. When the cream has gone from 2 cups down to about 1 1/2 cups or so (8-10 minutes), add the butter, Parmesan, salt, and pepper. Stir until the cheese has melted. It will thicken up a bit more once the cheese is added.

3. Serve immediately.

Our favorite is over pasta, usually with pieces of a rotisserie chicken. But for family dinner this week, we had it with seafood and pasta. Everybody loved it!

Try this super easy homemade Alfredo Sauce! Its so simple and delicious!

It stays good in the fridge in an airtight container for a few days. For leftovers the next day, I made pizza with it. Have you ever had pizza with Alfredo sauce? It is so delicious!! I would recommend with this sauce, spinach, shredded chicken, and mozzarella cheese. So, so good!

    Everything is always better homemade! Plus, I’m sure that can of alfredo sauce has tons of unnecessary sugar in it. I had a red sauce I make often, but I haven’t tried an alfredo sauce. It’s my brother’s favorite, so maybe when he’s in town I’ll have to try it out.

      That’s true! Homemade is just better!! Yes, probably extra sugar and extra junk we can even pronounce.
