My daughter is in kindergarten this year, and she is LOVING it! Even more than I imagined. She’s having fun meeting new friends, learning new things, and she loves the structure.
One of the big things they learning this year are their kindergarten sight words.
Since it was gorgeous out the other day, I thought I would make a fun sight words game outside to take advantage of the weather.

You will need:
Sidewalk chalk (3 colors or more is best, but work with what you have)
Write the same sight word twice, in two different spots. Writer 7-10 different words all over your sidewalk.
Call out a word, and watch the kids scramble to the word.
We played this way first because I wanted my girl and her friend to practice their sight words, and I didn’t want them to be competitive while I was testing it out.
Write 10-15 sight words once all over your sidewalk. Call out a word, and watch the kiddos race to the word first.
If you have one kiddo working in sight words and one kiddo learning their shapes/colors, you can do a nice big mix of both on the sidewalk. My kids love playing games together and while we play this one, they are both learning a ton! Plus, my older one is really good at helping the younger one. Teamwork!!
One kid calls out the words for the other kid. They both have to know the words for this one. Once they call all of them out, they switch.
Use a minimum of three colors to write down the different words.
Call out a color and each kid runs to a word in that color. Once they get there, they have to yell out the word.
**For a fun twist to this game, if the weather is hot, have the kids throw water balloons to the words instead of running to them.
These are just the games we played the other day, but I know we’re going to come up with more! If you have any you would like to add, please leave them in the comments!!
